A voice and lyrics rich with experience
While living north of Toronto Mary Lou co-founded an acoustic roots band, Three Penny Opus, that took home 'Gold' at the Havelock Ontario Country Music Showdown in 2009 and 'Best Country' at the Barrie New MusicFest in the same year. Moving back to Niagara in 2011, she formed Mary Lou Minor & Travellers Fare that was nominated for 'Country Group of the Year' and 'Folk Group of the Year' in 2012 as well as 'Country Group of the Year' in 2013. Her third album, I Won't Miss You, received radio play across Canada on CBC as well as commercial play out west and the title song was a finalist in the Great American Song Contest (GASC) in 2014. Of the album, Richard Hutton on Niagara Life stated, ".....this is genuine music that has more Patsy Cline and Hank Williams rather than Taylor Swift. Minor's music is simple and filled with authenticity."
Mary Lou's fourth album, Once Was A Time, released September 15, 2017, includes two of songs that were finalists in the Folk Music Ontario/Ontario Arts Council 'Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award' in 2015 and 2016 respectively.
Award-winning songs that tell of real emotions lived by real people. Most recently, Mary Lou was a songwriting finalist in the Great American Song Contest (GASC) and a finalist in both the 2015 and 2016 Folk Music Ontario/Ontario Arts Council Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award. Her music will leave you wanting more.
